Dear Dr Edward,
On behalf of Mr. Kurt (who had just left for Europe for a two-week sales trip last Monday, 5 March evening), pls accept our sincerest thanks and utmost appreciation for the wonderful article about the now "officially opened" Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai. What a superb (mais bien sur!) and exciting read.
I'm sure you will hear from Khun Mark after his return to work on 15 March.
Thank you very much once again, Dr Edward, and with best wishes to both Khun Tan and yourself,
Susie

Re: This week - Shopping, Dining, Music, Night Life, and Fun!
ok, this should be a book! A book on Northern Thailand...You've got it all there...i totally agree with your criteria re the discerning traveler...I took a horrendous Air France flight -- business class -- back from Europe -- the foam was literally coming out of the seats, it was dirty -- - ugh! -- bizclass is the new coach...yuk! Can only imagine what coach is like these days...WHY TRAVEL UNDER THESE CONDITIONS???? It's definitely got to be better than home..
The Chinese cabinet in the picture, I think it has two ginger boxes on top?...from a distance it looks like the Vuitton motif!!!
Anyway, I'm off, gotta pack.
A bientot,
Andrea
Dear Ted, Thank you so much for the wonderful and thoughtful article on shopping, etc. in Chiang Mai. Just in time for my forthcoming trip up there in late January of 07. I was especially impressed by your revelations about antiquing there and the best shops and owners, and of course share your grave reservations about mass tourism that is the goal of the government... one of the countries to avoid this mess is Bhutan, who years ago learned from the backpacking drug using crowd messing up Kathmandu that this group doesn't spend much money. Quality tourism was what they wanted, and so far they have continued that approach. I just noted that King Jigme has stepped down early to allow his 26 year old son to become monarch. I just wonder what 26 year old is capable of running any country today with the complexities that exist...maybe in Bhutan life is simpler and can be handled by such a youth.
The previous king who just stepped down used to stay with me and my late husband at our flat in Eaton Square when he was attending Heatherdown in England... he was a bright eyed, energetic, and charming boy, and always had a bodyguard in Bhutanese robes that carried a large sword at all times. Well, signing off for now, may I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy,Healthy and Prosperous New Year, and look forward to meeting you in Bangkok in the near future.
All best wishes, MSG
I was watching "The King and I" yesterday morning and thought of you …I must come and see you all love liz
RE: This week - Shopping, Dining, Music, Night Life, and Fun!

Howdy Ted,
Happy New Year!
Yes I am here with a big, yet exhausted smile on my face....... The exhaustion comes from 4 weeks of non-stop work with guests and the smile comes from thinking of the article you wrote....
I should have sent you a thank you note and flowers 2 weeks ago, my apologies for the delay. The article was fabulous and my parents loved it as well. I think that the best qualifier of success is if your parents like it.
Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.
I am making my first ever foray into Hong King at the end of the month and am excited for some big city action. Then in February I am off to Laos for the elephant round-up and some ele-polo. I hope to carve out a weekend to come to BKK sometime in Feb. I shall keep you posted.
Thanks Ted and a very Happy New Year to you.
