TRAVEL IS COSTLY. My first objective is to save you thousands of dollars by helping you avoid costly mistakes. Some of the information here can save you huge amounts of money.

TRAVEL IS RISKY. Life is too short for mistakes, especially when it comes to travel.
Most of us can't afford much more than two to three weeks of vacation a year and if we pick the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong crowd, it'll nightmare us for the next twelve months. Many travel writers get paid to sing the praises of the establishments that pick up the tab, and some brochures' prose is more purple than pure.
I am your Point Man—what you can learn from my experiences can empower you and enable you to travel more wisely, more comfortably, and more assuredly.

TRAVEL IS YOUR REWARD. Life is too short for mediocrity, especially when it comes to travel. Like many things in life today, the common denominator is usually too low or…too common. But great places do exist, they're just harder to find and you don’t have the time.
Like a roving ‘rich uncle’ writing home, I travel the world introducing you to extraordinary people, hotels, resorts, and restaurants, and I explore rare shops, private collections, and secret hideaways. Evaluating the newcomers and reassessing the old stand-bys, I tell you where to go and where to avoid. At the least, I hope to entertain you with the tales of my adventures.

Unfortunately, I am not a rich uncle, and I need your support.

For nearly a dozen years on the Internet, I have offered all of this information entirely for free. Unfortunately, it is not free to me!

As you know, I travel incognito and pay my own way to bring you the unvarnished truth about my travel experiences. On top of that, the cost of maintaining this site—the oldest independent travel guide on the Internet (estab. Aug 1995)—is hard to meet on the salary of a professor in Thailand! :-)

So, if you feel you've received some value, or would like to help support the site's ongoing presence, please reciprocate. No one other than you sponsors this site. Any donation would be much appreciated and will help to keep the site online and growing.

You can simply send a credit card or check account payment securely and instantly via Paypal by clicking on the icon below.

Many thanks for your help.

Please email me anytime for advice. I’d love to help.

All the best,
Ted
