Jim Thompson's Farmers Market

Jim Thompson's bedroom.JPG

June 8, 2005

The first time I dined chez Jim Thompson was in 1963, with him in his fabulous home. The last time was last night!

No, of course he wasn’t there, but I can assure you that if he hadn’t disappeared, he would have been hiding in shame.

The venue was Jim Thompson’s Farmers Market at 120/1 Saladaeng Soi 1, off Silom.

Such a pretty restaurant, such a lousy dinner.

Avoiding details, I’ll simply say that the shrimp in the Dtom Yam Gung probably died when he did.

Granted it was 9 pm, and we were the last diners, but I just wish the chef had followed the recipe in the new and wonderful book, At the Table of Jim Thompson, Archipelago Press, 2004. William Warren’s introduction is as lovely as all my memories of Mr. Thompson and his home.
