August 1996 – August 1998:
New York City

Wordsmith for biztravel.com, and the company's editor-in-chief of bizTraveler - the travelzine for the business scene. Carter was responsible for the creation and development of biztraveler that was launched in January 1997 as an 8-section, 40-department e-magazine. Contributing to the uniqueness of Biztravel.com and winning awards along the way, biztraveler focused on matters of urgent concern to frequent business travelers as well as featuring popular destinations, arcane getaways, provocative interviews, and even a 14-part mystery series. (Company sold.)

During this same period, Carter conducted private, advanced level, fine art photography workshops.


1991 - 1996:
Los Angeles and San Francisco

President and chief executive officer of Interactive Travelvision Network, Inc., publishers of tourism information for discerning travelers worldwide. ITN's Internet site TravelVision.com was the world's only online, interactive, editorially-independent, pictorial database of more than 2000, incognito-inspected, individually-rated hotels, inns, and resorts in 120 countries which could be searched by over 90 personal criteria. 1986-1991
London and Los Angeles

CEO of Edward Carter & Associates that advised British Airways on the redesign of all First Class facilities and services, and was a consultant to a U.K. country house hotel company, and to travel, and advertising companies in the U.K. (Returned to the United States.)

During this same period, authored and published for four years Edward Carter’s Travels, a subscription monthly of Dr. Carter's personal travel experiences, and critiques of restaurants, hotels, and resorts.

Also created and managed The Inside Fax that provided by fax the answers to subscribers' travel-related questions.

Also authored and published Letters from Abroad, an anthology of Edward Carter's Travels that was carried on all British Airways first class sections and lounges.

Also authored British Airways First Class Hotel Selection that resulted from traveling 55,000 miles in 55 days on all BA routes to research Dr. Carter’s favorite hotels on these routes worldwide. (Merged content to CD-ROM then to the Internet.).


1978-1986
New York State

Created The Point -- for 25 years the “Zagat Survey’s” No. 1 USA resort hotel, and continually at or near the top of every annual "best small resort/hotel in America" list). The Point was the fourth hotel property in the United States to become a member of Relais et Châteaux of which Carter was the first international delegate (for the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Bermuda).

Carter developed a Hospitality Training Program for high-end hotel properties, plus a Cooking School, and earned his Ph.D from Stafford.

1973-1979
London and Geneva

CEO of Carter & Co, SA. Carter developed the industry of individually-owned, capital equipment leasing in Europe and the Middle East. In its 7th year, the group was the second largest shipping container sales and leasing company in the world. (Gave company to employees.)


1970-1973
Turks and Caicos

Developed a large tract of land in the Caribbean on the island of Providenciales for a 285-room resort. (Sold the property to Club Med.)


1962-1970
Okinawa, Hong Kong, Geneva, Malta, Northern Ireland, and London

Graduated from Stafford University with a BA in photography. While working on a Masters in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Carter created the “Universal Life Insurance” (equity-linked) concept. Set up 17 offices in the U.K. with 3600 employees, organized international conferences, and recruited and trained 45,000 sales people who sold $25 million sums assured per month in the company’s 7th year.

During this period, Dr. Carter was responsible for the creation and implementation of the company’s entire Worldwide Training Program and conducted training seminars in many countries, including special programs at Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the United Kingdom. (Company sold.)
