Edward Carter Forty Years in Forty Minutes (this is page 36 of 38)
As I update this in the autumn of 2004, James is living in Johannesburg writing films. His last major film, Gaudi Afternoon (directed by Susan Sieldelman who discovered Madonna and directed her in "Desperately Seeking Susan,") was selected as the celebratory conclusion to a recent New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The Point is still at the top of virtually every "best" list in the world, and I am loving living in Bangkok sharing my life experiences with my students at Bangkok University International College. I've been traveling all over Thailand "antiquing" and have been lucky to find some wonderful treasures for my new home. Have a look... ![]() This is a corner of the entrance hall. My mother's father bought the mirror in Manhattan more than a hundred years ago. The cabinet is a painter's cabinet, Chinese and 150 years old, that I found in Chang Mai. Every surface is covered with what seems to be parchment, and no square inch was left "un-tortured" as Robert Carrier is wont to say. I found the pair of Chinese vases while antiquing with Sally and Dinah in Lewes, Delaware. The candlesticks are 18th-century English, and the orchids came from ChatuChak weekend market...more than a year ago. :-) I bought the small oil painting from the wife of the locally renowned painter in Vientiane, Laos; it is of one of the countries' most famous temples.
Please email me your travel tales, "postcards," and questions. I'll publish the most interesting, appropriate or outrageous in Correspondence - All the best, Ted (short for Edward)
