Forty Years in Forty Minutes

(this is page 32 of 38)

Every night at The Point was a "pot luck" dinner party and, as people had read that this was going to be "the most marvelous experience of your life," each evening was a new challenge for us.

Happily, the one thing everyone had in common was that they were experienced (usually rather jaded) world travelers. All I had to do was ask the lady on my right where she'd been recently, and the travel symposium began.

As the raves got more and more exuberant, guests came to expect more and more magic. There were only so many answers to "Tell us how you came to find The Point" and "How deep is the lake?"

So, after seven years, we tired and sold The Point to David and Christie Garrett and their consortium of investors. They had been frequent (and charming) guests and I'm thrilled they are continuing the effort - The Point has been consistently named the number-one USA resort hotel in the Zagat Survey® (a big deal in the United States).

James moved back to Manhattan; I re-established home in London and travelled for the fun of it.

"Auntie Mame" was replaced by "Miss Piggy" (you'll never look at a Rolls-Royce the same way again), and Bobs II by a custom-made, drophead, V-12 Ferrari 400i.
